If you can walk and stand then you can practice the Tai Chi and Chi Kung breathing for this class.
We are assuming that everyone is a complete beginner at Tai Chi.
You can do the class barefoot or with socks. If you need shoes for balance, then we ask that you bring a pair of shoes that you do not wear outside to prevent bringing dirt and debris onto our mats.
We will provide youtube videos of the beginning postures and the chi kung exercises for home practice
The instructors are black sash students of our school and are also senior age themselves. This way they understand the particular challenges of learning this as a senior.
"At 75, after two near falls and reflecting on past injuries—a broken hip, a severe motorcycle accident, and a pacemaker—I knew I needed to act. I found Austin Kung Fu & Tai Chi and began classes in April 2025. Five months in, attending twice a week, I have no regrets. Master Joe, Master Sheryl, and the advanced students have been incredibly supportive. The pain in my left shoulder has eased, and my balance has significantly improved. I now move with more deliberation and control, something I am truly grateful for."
